Scientists Develop an Eco-Friendly Material to Purify Water

A study published in the Advanced Materials journal shows that scientists have developed an atypical porous polymer material that effectively removes 99.9% phenolic microplastics and volatile organic compounds in water at ultra-high speeds.

The eco-friendly material can absorb light and convert it into heat, a characteristic that helped researchers develop a water treatment membrane that uses solar energy to evaporate water. Moreover, it maintains its superior performance even when used multiple times and can be recycled without requiring high thermal energy.

The team led by scientists from the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) in South Korea believes that this material will be vital in purifying contaminated water and supplying potable water to areas without power supply.
